Meet Dr. Brenda Burden

Dr. Burden grew up showing horses, training dogs, and working as a veterinary assistant and dog groomer in Southwestern Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Alabama, Birmingham School of Optometry in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics and Doctorate of Optometry.

Dr. Burden completed her externship in Ocular Disease at Omni Eye Care Center in Atlanta, Georgia before moving on to her post-graduate residency in 1991. During her residency, she specialized in Ocular Disease at Birmingham School of Optometry and geriatric hospital-based care at Tuscaloosa/Birmingham, Alabama VA Hospitals.

In 1995 Dr. Burden journeyed to Washington, where a temporary move became a permanent home. She is married to Ken Mayemura, OD, who works primarily at Magnolia Eye Care in Seattle. When not at of the office, she enjoys art, music, and being outdoors.

Ocular health problems can be early indicators of undetected systemic health issues. Dr. Burden’s favorite aspect of being an Optometric Physician is the opportunity it grants to help patients not only see better, but improve their overall well-being. Dr. Burden strongly believes in open, clear communication, and educating each patient, along with their health care team, to help find the best care plan.
